NDP forces vote on building hospital infrastructure to strengthen Ontario

Stiles’ Ontario NDP calls on the province to fund hospital and critical health care infrastructure in the 2025 Budget as a part of Ontario's nation-building efforts to fight back against Donald Trump’s tariffs

QUEEN’S PARK — Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition NDP, is bringing forward an opposition day motion to build care and strengthen Ontario in the face of Donald Trump’s tariffs and its economic impacts.

“Our nation is built on a world-class health care system that looks after people and ensures that people can get the care they need, when they need it and where they need it – it is what makes us Canadian.

“Building hospitals, urgent care centres, emergency rooms, and critical health care infrastructure is nation-building. That’s why, we are bringing forward solutions that will build care and strengthen Ontario.

“At a time when our province is facing unprecedented economic uncertainty, no community should be left with closed emergency rooms, urgent cares, and delayed hospital projects.

“Today, we are giving the Premier the opportunity to say yes to a solution that would connect communities to care, create good union jobs, and strengthen the future of our province.”

The Ontario NDP motion calls to prioritize critical health care infrastructure as nation-building projects and fund them in the 2025 Budget. The motion calls on the government to commit to:

  • New hospitals for Durham Region, Brantford, Kitchener-Waterloo and Brampton
  • Re-opening the Minden Hospital
  • Expanding the Windsor-Essex Regional Hospital, Queensway Carleton Hospital, Arnprior Regional Hospital and Hamilton Health Sciences
  • Redeveloping the Weeneebayko General Hospital and Health Sciences North
  • Renovating the Thessalon Hospital, Matthews Memorial Hospital, Manitoulin Health Centre and Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital
  • Restoring 24/7 emergency services and urgent care to Welland Hospital, Douglas Memorial and Port Colborne
